Some people may have no other symptoms or several. If foods are responsible, the smell should go away after a few hours.įishy-smelling urine may be the first indication of a mild or severe health problem. If an individual stops taking these supplements and their urine still smells fishy, they should contact a doctor.Ĭertain foods, including asparagus and fish, can make the urine smell. The odor may be more noticeable when a person is dehydrated. Some of these can make the urine smell fishy, especially supplements of calcium, vitamin B6, and vitamin D. A person who is pregnant and noticing these symptoms should ensure that they are drinking enough water. See a doctor if the smell does not disappear in a day or two.ĭehydration during pregnancy can make the urine look darker or smell worse. This can lead to a stronger smell, and it may make a fishy smell more noticeable. Pregnancy can make the urine more concentrated. It’s more of a light egg salad sandwich smell. If a person suspects that any of the following causes are responsible for the fishy smell, it is usually safe to wait a few days and see if the smell clears up without treatment. I don’t think it would be a heater, since heat can barely reach my room in the first place so I doubt it’s that, is there any other things that would smell slightly eggy? (Shelves, water pipes, dead animals in the wall, etc) I should also say it’s not really a rotten egg smell like google says gas smells like, and it also dosnt smell like when you turn on a stove and for a few seconds a little bit of the gas gets out before burning. I doubt it’s gas, the only place I smell gas is the one room that’s 2 floors above the nearest gas pipe. I only have fire and carbon monoxide alarms, and I tried taking one off the wall and setting it on my rooms desk for a few hours and it never went off( I’ve checked the batteries, and the alarm won’t go bad for another 3 years so it’s working fine), so I’ve ruled out carbon monoxide. I don’t even think we have gas pipes in the walls, the only place I think they run is the one into my house, and then 2 pipes that would branch off to the furnace and kitchen, and that’s in the basement, my room is 2 floors above the nearest gas pipe. And if it was something with the heater, the whole house should smell bad since all the heat pipes or whatever are all connected and each floor has quite a few vents, but nothing else anywhere. The smell is completely contained to a single room that’s the farthest away from any gas stuff in the house, it’s so far that heat from the heater has problems making it In to my room. The only things in my entire house that use gas are the stove, oven, and heater and the entire floors that those are on smell completely fine. I’ve checked the area around the furnace and it smells normal, the area around my stove and oven smell normal, everything smells completely normal except my room. So, does anyone know if these symptoms sound like a gas leak, carbon monoxide leak, my nose playing tricks, leaking sewage tube, weird shelve smell, or something else?ĭo you have any idea why it’s only in my room? When I say it’s only in my room, I mean the entire house smells normal. I’m extremely paranoid about this stuff, it’s been going on for weeks at this point and I haven’t died, however sometimes I get a mild headache at night but that might just be a stress/sickness one since I’ve been quite stressed lately and haven’t been feeling great. My first thought was that gas was escaping through the heating vents but that would make the whole house smell and not my room, and I’ve basically ruled that out since my room is the farthest away from the heater and the heat itself has problems reaching me, so I doubt gas would be able to since the heater dosnt turn on at night so there’s nothing blowing it up. I have no idea if there’s gas pipes around my house, but I doubt it since the only gas I use in my house is heating and cooking, and the heater is 2 floors below and stove is a floor below, and I doubt it’s the stove because my kitchen smells completely normal. Some things to help with a diagnosis are: I got some fiberboard shelves a little while ago and I heard they can smell, but when I put my nose to them they smell fine, I don’t hear any obvious hissing or roaring, the smell seems to be entirely contained to my room, and it only really ever happens at night. I have a window mounted ac unit, if it matters. Whenever I smell it i get really panicked because I always seem to have a cold so I can never really know if it’s gas or something else. Some nights it’s strong, some nights it fades away. My room, and only my room, smells a bit eggy at night.
